They are Generation Restoration. AYUDH India members brought to Amma their commitment to help make peace with the land. The youth are focused on the alarming rise in human-animal conflict due to habitat degradation, food scarcity, and the unrelenting toll of deforestation.
With their Sahajeevanam project, they are leading the planting of seedlings and seed balls of native trees and plants in their communities. Planting has started in Kerala, West Bengal, Maharasthra, and Odisha. With this care for Mother Earth, they are helping to restore and preserve the biodiversity of forests and wildlife areas.
Amma blessed seedlings and seed balls and gave them to volunteers to begin their efforts. Hon’ble Justice Shri KR Shriram of the Mumbai High Court and his wife were the first recipients, having been sincerely inspired by AYUDH’s vision.
Amma especially expressed gratitude for how this will help the honeybees, who are losing their memories due to pesticides. Without the contribution of bees and other pollinators, at least a third of the world’s food could disappear.
AYUDH’s initiative was launched as part of their participation in this year’s World Environment Day. As part of Generation Restoration, the United Nations Environment Programme emphasised that humankind needs to slash greenhouse gas emissions by nearly half by 2030 to hold global warming below 2°C and avoid its most dangerous impacts. That goal cannot be met without restoring ecosystems and their carbon stores.
