On December 2nd 2014, our volunteers in Cancun, Mexico celebrated “Giving Tuesday” by feeding 600 people. Giving Tuesday is an international movement that encourages people and organizations around the world to organize humanitarian initiatives and acts of altruism. Many use the day to make a commitment to give selflessly throughout the upcoming year.

With this intention, Embracing the World volunteers partnered with a local community center “Manos de Apoyo y Vida A.C.” and organized an event to benefit the community in which “LA Cocina de Amma”, our soup kitchen in Mexico, takes place. The event included a free meal for 600 people as well as cultural and artistic activities, children’s games and dances.

León Alba, a famous Mexican artist, led a painting competition with the children and a photo contest to encourage the children to develop their creativity and express themselves. With the support of Alltournative, we donated a camera to the community center so the children could continue their creative exploration. There were prizes for the winners of the competition that included a cultural and ecological day trip to a Mayan community in Pac-chen.
