Three years ago in 2011, the village of Siror in Uttarakhand, the Northern most state of India, experienced landslides and many houses were destroyed. Families were given temporary shelters by the government, however there were no plans for further assistance to build permanent homes.
The villagers had been living in the tin sheds since the landslide and could have continued for years. In June 2014, we began construction of permanent homes on farmland around the village. Although the sites had no road access, after just five months the houses were completed and families were able to move in.
