Amrita to Collaborate with Rural Development Ministry, Govt. Of India

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham and the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR) have agreed to collaborate on knowledge sharing, technology transfer, and training in areas such as e-Learning, skill development, rural technologies, sanitation, energy conservation, and outreach programs.
The collaboration, initiated on May 15, 2019, at Amritapuri campus, was graced by Amma, and it aims to make a significant social impact on rural India. The Director General of NIRDPR, Dr. W. R. Reddy, expressed that combining NIRDPR’s rural reach with Amrita’s compassionate research and rural technologies can transform India’s rural landscape.
Dr. Venkat Rangan, Vice Chancellor of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, highlighted the institution’s Live-in-Labs program, which involves students going to rural areas to understand challenges and develop research-based solutions. This collaboration is expected to contribute to sustainable rural development, building on Amrita’s SeRVe project launched in 2013.

The National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRD&PR), an autonomous organization under the Union Ministry of Rural Development, is a premier national centre of excellence in rural development and Panchayati Raj. It builds capacities of rural development functionaries through inter-related activities of training, research and consultancy.
