Amrita Schools

Empowering future leaders with values

A school system that instills children with compassion and self-confidence

Amrita Vidyalayam is a forward-thinking network of schools in India managed by the Mata Amritanandamayi Math, under the guidance of Amma. The first one opened in 1987 in Kondungallur, Kerala as a primary English-medium school. Today, there are 86 across the country that foster students from pre-Kindergarten to Class 12 with values and self-esteem.

Amma attaches great importance to providing education and training for the development of each child’s creativity, intelligence, and character. This strong base helps them boldly venture into various fields of action to build a world of love, harmony, peace, mutual respect, and knowledge.

It is a dynamic approach that goes beyond the traditional offerings of academic rigour and child-centred instruction. It redefines schooling through the understanding that education should not be based solely on academic prowess, but should also nurture children who have well-rounded personalities, are intellectually curious, and are ready to apply their learning to the betterment of society.

With 86,000 students, 4,100 teachers, and 1,500 non-teaching staff, the schools encourage critical thinking and problem-solving, preparing students for future challenges and discoveries.

We live in a time where our educational system desperately needs to put more stress on inculcating universal values, such as empathy, service-mindedness, true love and compassion in our youngsters. We need educational institutions which actively spread these universal, spiritual values.
