Haridwar, April 05, 2021: The Mata Amritanandamayi Math (MAM) has arranged for an ‘advanced mobile hospital’ in the form of a new and fully equipped Mobile Telemedicine Van offering free medical check-ups, consultations, and medicines to the pilgrims and sadhus (sages) visiting the Kumbh Mela in Haridwar. The van, stationed at Rishikul Medical College Campus (Ayurveda), Haridwar, is part of Amrita Swastha Kumbh-21 ((Allopathic Services) that the public can avail of from April 5 to April 27, 2021. A separate ambulance has also been provided to cater to emergency cases.
Swami Nijamamritananda, In-Charge of Mata Amritanandamayi Math, Delhi said, “We have always strived towards helping humanity and offered our selfless services to mankind. In accordance with our philosophy, we came up with this idea of the mobile hospital so we can serve the devotees of the Kumbh Mela. The van is fully equipped for advanced check-ups and a medical team, consisting of 10 experts from Amrita Hospitals at Kochi and Faridabad, along with 10 paramedics and 10 volunteers is available 24 hours. We are also offering diagnostic services and free medical tests like blood pressure checking, electrocardiography (ECG)/ cholesterol, sugar and kidney function tests, X-rays at the van. Free medical consultation and free medicine distribution for needy patients have also been arranged.”
Shri Pramod Krishnan, Coordinator, Mata Amritanandamayi Math, Uttarakhand added, “We have stationed the van in the Rishikul Medical College campus as it is close to both the railway station and bus stand, giving easy accessibility to all needy pilgrims and sages. The hi-tech Telemedicine Van is also equipped with USG/ECHO, X-Ray, Bio chemistry, fully auto analyzer, Centrifuge 8 slot, Hematology analyzer cell counter ( 5part) & printer, ECG machine (10 lead), Pulse Oximeter, Defibrillator, Microscope, Nebulizer,O2 cylinder (7,000 litres) Refrigerator ( 30 ltr), Antenna, OT bed, Computer TV Monitor, laptop and lED display 40 inch, Printer (colour laser), Power generator, Solar panel and solar inverter (UPS 4 KV) and a public address system.”
The Amrita Swastha Kumbh-21, which is the allopathic medical camp organized by Amma’s Ashram was inaugurated on April 5, in the esteemed presence of Sri Dineshji, VHP International Organising Secretary, New Delhi; Sri Madan Kaushik, BJP State President; Sri Ravi Shankar, DM, Haridwar; Sri Sunil, VC, Rishikul Ayurvedic Hospital and other dignitaries from Haridwar, Kochi, Faridabad and Delhi.
Mata Amritanandamayi Math manages the 1,100-bed super-speciality hospital Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences in Kochi, which it launched in 1998 and several free healthcare clinics, medicine dispensaries and hospitals in India. It is also in the process of constructing a 2,200-bed hospital in Delhi/NCR. The math has provided free medical care and surgeries to more than four million people since 1998 which includes super-specialty surgeries including heart surgeries, brain surgeries and kidney transplants. Aside from free treatment, Amrita Institute provides care on a sliding scale, allowing people to pay what they can afford. This is often a minimal percent of the total medical cost.
