The Women 4 Ethical AI conference convened at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, gathering leaders to address the critical importance of ethics and gender inclusivity in artificial intelligence.
Amrita University’s Dr Bhavani Rao, Dean of the School of Social and Behavioural Sciences, participated as one of the distinguished speakers. She holds Amrita’s UNESCO Chair for Gender Equality & Women’s Empowerment and is Director of AMMACHI Labs and the Center for Women’s Empowerment & Gender Equality.
Dr Rao contributed her insights as a panelist with the session on Women’s Data in AI, which highlighted the essential role of gender-sensitive information in developing systems that are fair and inclusive.
The discussion featured experts from multiple disciplines, all sharing best practices for data collection, usage, and analysis with a gender lens. The concepts fostered greater fairness and precision in AI technologies, ensuring they benefit society more equitably.
The panel underscored that thoughtful data practices are key to developing AI that upholds ethical standards and enhances gender equality—a goal aligned with UNESCO’s commitment to creating inclusive and responsible AI systems worldwide.
