UNESCO Chair on Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment

Education, research, and implementation for gender equality and women’s empowerment

Since 2016, Amrita University has held India’s first ever UNESCO Chair on Gender Equality & Women’s Empowerment. The goal is to design tools and methods for effective and inclusive interventional strategies that strengthen gender equality and women’s empowerment. Our key research areas align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) including safety and security, economic vitality, education, political, social and cultural environment, environmental quality and health. A unique part of this strategy is that the Chair seeks to map community vulnerabilities in order to understand all of the different factors at play and thus create the most effective interventions.
