Haryana’s Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Manohar Lal inaugurated the state-of-the-art facility with 150 MBBS seats, located inside the sprawling campus of Amrita Hospital.

Opening new vistas for medical education in Haryana, Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Manohar Lal initiated the Amrita School of Medicine in Faridabad during the ongoing Integrated Holistic Health Summit of Civil 20 India (C20).

The Amrita School of Medicine, Faridabad, sprawling across an area of 520,000 lakh sq. ft, is part of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham’s eighth campus. The Medical School is offering 150 MBBS seats for the academic year 2023-24. Indian and international students seeking admission need to appear for the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (UG).

“Haryana should have 28,000 doctors, according to the World Health Organization’s norms, but currently has less than half that number. We intend to open a medical college in every district of the state to increase this count. Work has already started on opening medical colleges in every district of Haryana, except four,” said Shri Manohar Lal.

Amma, as Chancellor of the university, emphasizes the need for an integrated approach to health care, “Today, most people perceive health only as related to the physical body. However, human existence is not merely at the level of the body. Mental, intellectual and emotional health are also important. Over and above, we must acknowledge the strength of the all-pervasive spirit, the ātma-śakti, that imbues everything with consciousness. When one gives all these factors equal importance in one’s life, the meaning of healthcare becomes complete.”

Under Amma’s vision to combine traditional knowledge with modern medicine, Amrita’s new medical school will have all the facilities and infrastructure conducive to the most advanced learning. This will include state-of-the-art classrooms, world-class labs, high-end technology, and academic and research linkages between Amrita University and select Ivy League universities in the US and Europe. Amrita already figures among the top 10 medical schools in India in the 2022 NIRF Rankings.

“We already operate a highly reputed Amrita School of Medicine in Kochi. We are now delighted to bring the same standards of educational and medical excellence to Faridabad by opening this new School of Medicine attached to Amrita Hospital, which is India’s largest private multispecialty hospital with 2,600 beds,” said Dr. Sanjeev Singh, Medical Director, Amrita Hospital, Faridabad.

Said Col. BK Mishra, Principal, Amrita School of Medicine, Faridabad, “Our faculty is among the best in Asia and would nurture students to become highly trained doctors who are much sought after in India and abroad. The School of Medicine will provide hostel facilities to all students, be they from India or around the world.”

The Amrita Hospital campus in Faridabad now hosts a medical college and a nursing college. The campus in Kochi includes medical, nursing, dentistry, and pharmacy schools. Notably, it also runs India’s largest Allied Health Sciences College that offers 20 to 30 courses to help build capacity and skill sets that support the hospital’s clinical teams.

Added Dr. Singh, “The Faridabad campus is being shaped as one of the few multidisciplinary healthcare systems in India with a focus on research, collaboration, and shared information. The cooperation between professionals from various medical disciplines at Amrita Hospital and researchers at Amrita University aids in creating a distinctive interdisciplinary ecosystem that promotes scientific achievements.”

Amrita has also built a one lakh sq.ft. Simulation Learning and Development Centre which would cater to robotic training, haptic-based surgical training simulation, cadaver, and high-fidelity training for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
