Amrita University emerged as the 4th best university in India for the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) Ranking 2020. Amrita University was also ranked 7th among medical colleges in India. The list was released by Hon’ble Minster for Human Resources & Development Sri. Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’  on June 11, 2020. Amrita University was once again ranked among the top best universities in India behind well-established and prestigious public institutions such as the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore; Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi; and Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. In 2019, Amrita University was ranked 8th best. VIT & Amrita University are the only two private engineering institutes to be ranked in the top 20 in the engineering category. 

Amrita School of Medicine was ranked 7th best medical college in the county after All India Institute of Medical Sciences New Delhi, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, Christian Medical College, Vellore, National Institute of Mental Health & Neuro Sciences, Banglore, Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow and Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi and ahead of a prestigious institution like, JIPMER, Puducherry, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, and others  “Amrita University and it’s medical college have once again found a place in the top 10 in the NIRF Ranking 2020 iswhich is ample testimony to the vision of the world-renowned humanitarian leader and Chancellor, Sri Mata Amritanandamayi (Amma) in setting the dual goals of education for life and compassion-driven research. The recognition would not have been possible without the untiring, persistant and dedicated efforts by the students and staff. I wish to express my sincere gratitude to the Government of India in bestowing this honour. I am happy with the consistency in the recognition of the academic excellence, outstanding faculty, and world-class infrastructure that the university is known for,” said Dr P Venkat Rangan, Vice Chancellor, Amrita University.
