“We should try to find happiness within,” said Amma during her first day in New York City. The program was held at the Javits Center in Manhattan. Amma gave satsang, sang soul-uplifting bhajans, guided meditation, and continued prayers for world peace.
Thousands of people enthusiastically came to receive Amma’s darshan. Among them were Ben Vereen, American actor, dancer, singer, and Tony Award winner; Elizabeth Gilbert, the #1 New York Times best-selling author of Eat, Pray, Love; and renowned Acharya, Dr. Sthaneshwar Timalsina, religious scholar and associate professor at San Diego State University. Each of these VIPs spent heartwarming moments in Amma’s divine embrace.
Brahmacharini Amrita Chaitanya shared how Amma is the ideal example of adapting perfectly to any situation. Especially while showering her love and compassion upon the incredible variety of people who arrive to meet her.
“One moment she is talking seriously to someone about the intricacies of their PhD research topic. With the next breath, she is consoling someone who has lost a family member, and even sheds tears with them. Moments later she can be seen joking and laughing with children,” said Bri Amrita in a spiritual talk with Amma.
“In 2022, Amma inaugurated Amrita Hospital, Faridabad, which is one of India’s largest private hospitals. Last year, Amma was named chair of Civil 20 during India’s G20 Presidency. Under her guidance, C20 achieved immense civil society engagement, involving 154 countries, and over 6,000 organizations.
“At the same time, amidst this constant activity, Amma is the beloved teacher—or Guru—for the Ashram community in India and seekers across the globe.”
