Bhajans & Chanting
Bhajans are poetic compositions sung in groups—prayers in a musical form.
Their content can be devotional, while others address universal human values.
Over a thousand original bhajans have been composed by Amma, her disciples and devotees in many languages: Sanskrit, Malayalam (Amma’s mother tongue), Hindi, English, French, Spanish and many more. Amma herself has sung bhajans in over 50 languages and dialects.
People from all walks of life have shown a keen interest in listening to or singing bhajans. To sing a bhajan wholeheartedly is an experience akin to meditation. Amma recommends singing bhajans as a highly effective practice for all of us.
“Devotional singing is the spontaneous music of the soul. Sing from the depth of your hearts! Bhajan sung with one-pointedness will benefit the singer, the listener and also Nature.”
