School for Children in Kenya

Opening doors to a new life

An education built on compassion for poor families outside Nairobi

In 2011, Amma established a charitable school for about 150 children on the outskirts of Nairobi, Kenya.  Spread across 11 acres on the banks of the Athi River, Amrita Watoto Boma provides food, an English-medium education, and healthcare in a loving environment.

The school was built to serve families living in the nearby slum, where access to education is extremely limited. It offers a safe, welcoming place to learn—close to home and free of charge.

For many students, it is their first step into a classroom. Today, it is run with the assistance of seven teachers, two cooks, a gardener and our volunteers.

Every Sunday, about 250 children from the surrounding area also arrive for our free meal program.
