With a vision for compassion-driven science, Amma founded Amrita University in 2003 as a research-intensive institution. It is dedicated to finding solutions for our world’s most pressing issues, including healthcare, climate resilience, gender equality, access to education, food & water security, and ethical technology. Amma also believes that education should impart a culture of the heart, based on enduring values and inner strength.

Today, there are 10 campuses across 6 states with a vibrant community of more than 30,000 students and 2,000 faculty. As well, Amrita has more than 180 partnerships with international universities. Though a young university, it has received top rankings in India and worldwide.

Academics

Medicine

Driven by compassion and fuelled by innovation, Amrita School of Medicine provides leadership in pioneering research and world-class clinical therapies. With two campuses in Faridabad and Kochi, we offer a wide range of degree programs from the bachelors level to postgraduate, fellowship, and doctoral programs. Research topics run the gamut from ayurveda to biomedical engineering.

Sustainable Development

Inspired by Amma’s focus on practical and holistic solutions to the problems that the world faces today, the Amrita School for Sustainable Futures is centered around making sustainable development a reality for everyone. Amrita University’s UNESCO Chair on Experiential Learning for Sustainable Innovation & Development focuses on developing an experiential learning framework to collaboratively design sustainable solutions in partnership with vulnerable and rural populations. We also offers a Ph.D. in sustainable development and a range of multidisciplinary research centers related to this topic.

Biotechnology

Approved by the Government of India as a Center of Relevance and Excellence (CORE) in Biomedical Technology, Amrita School of Biotechnology combines cutting-edge curricula with state-of-the-art facilities for teaching and research. Our research program concentrates on preventive and therapeutic innovations in the biological sciences. Projects include wound healing, target discovery and validation, and development of anti-snake venom therapeutics.

Business

The mission of Amrita School of Business is to offer contemporary and quality post graduate management education for life—emphasizing  research, sustainable development, and societal benefits. Students get the opportunity for experiential learning through programs like Live-in-Labs. We are accredited by Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), a global business education alliance, and the gold standard for business schools.

Engineering

The Amrita School of Engineering’s vision is to be a global leader in the delivery of engineering education—transforming individuals to become creative, innovative, and socially responsible contributors in their professions. With expert faculty, industry-driven curriculum, state of the art facilities, and collaborative research, we prepare graduates with a solution oriented mindset and high degree of ethical standards.

Arts and Science

Based on Amma’s vision, the Amrita School of Arts & Sciences aims to prepare a generation that can successfully meet the rigorous demands of the Information Age and at the same time, absorb the noble ideals of selfless service and love. The arts and science courses cover a broad range of topics from fine arts and literature, to physics and chemistry.

Communication

The Amrita Department of Mass Communication prepares students to make a difference to society and to meet ever-evolving industry demands through a mix of theory, research, practical approaches, and industry collaborations. Media studies include advertising, marketing, journalism, film and more. Students are encourages to explore their creativity and critical thinking, and bring an ethical perspective to their work.

Social Work

The Amrita School of Social and Behavioural Sciences seeks to drive research for societal good with compassion as the firm foundation. We aim to identify and address the social disparities in physical and mental health, environmental health, and community development while evaluating interventions and policies for gender-based violence, and child rights and protection. Amrita University’s UNESCO Chair for Gender Equality & Women’s Empowerment facilitates compassion-driven, iterative, and collaborative research to implement technologies that support under-served populations.
