All gathered with Amma in Amritapuri to watch the webcast of the consecration of the Shri Rama Temple in Ayodhya, Lord Rama’s birthplace. The idol is in the form of Rama as a child, symbolising the rebirth of dharma—actions based on virtue—in our modern-day world. With prayers for universal peace, the doors of the temple are open to everyone regardless of background or beliefs.

The historic event was led by India’s Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi. Swami Amritaswarupananda Puri, Amma’s most senior disciple, attended on Amma’s behalf. He was accompanied by Swami Vedamritananda Puri and Swami Nijamritananda Puri.

Amma sang bhajans upon completion of the ceremonies, Pran Pratishtha, in celebration of Shri Rama’s life. It was a life dedicated to love, compassion, understanding, and protection of justice for the good of all.

When twilight arrived, clay oil lamps were lit throughout Amritapuri in union with millions across the country. This sacred tradition commemorates the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya, a metaphor for the dawning of light over darkness and the victory of knowledge over ignorance.

Amma explained, “The symbolism of Shri Rama can be installed within our hearts. Devotees of Rama believe that worshipping Rama will bring prosperity to the nation. We should invoke Rama and the qualities of Rama within ourselves. Let us pray for world peace.”

As hands throughout the Bhajan Hall circled lamps alongside Amma, she led the chanting of ‘Shri Rama, Jaya Rama, Jaya Jaya Rama’ and then ‘Lokah Samasthah Sukhino Bhavantu’—May All Beings Everywhere Be Happy.
