On this blessed day of Patham Udayam, Amritapuri Ashram residents planted saplings at the Jasmine Gardens. It is a highly auspicious day in the Malayalam calendar as it marks the tenth sunrise after Vishu, Kerala’s new year.

Many hearts smiled in the sunshine as they placed the new jasmine plants into the soil.

From senior disciples…

To Ashram children…

To devotees from around the world.

This inspired prayers for the good of all of creation as each one connected to Mother Earth.

With the Sun’s energy at its peak, Patham Udayam is an ideal time for new beginnings and seeking blessings from Surya Dev, the Sun God.

Traditionally, farmers use this day to begin new crops, as its power is able to contribute to a bountiful harvest.

The jasmine flowers from these gardens are intended for the daily traditional rites of pujas and Amma’s Âratî, the sacred waving of flames as an expression of devotion.

Grounded in the earth’s strength, the gardeners envisioned a brighter future for all of humanity.
