India’s Honourable Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, inaugurated a new Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS) Centre under the Mata Amritanandamayi Math in Ankul, Odisha.
The 440 beneficiaries of the project are underprivileged youth, tribals, and minorities. Coming from the poorest sections of society, they will be trained in vocational skills and entrepreneurship to enable them to become self-reliant.
The courses take both their needs and inherent talents into consideration. The Government certification will be provided by Skill India. Trainings include Plumbing, Welding, Electrician, Tailoring, Beautician, Food Processing, etc.

Overall, Amrita-JSS is providing skills training in eight rural areas. The Govt of India’s Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS)—Institute of People’s Education—exists to uplift the poorest sections of society by providing free vocational training to non-literates, neo-literates, and school drop-outs. It especially focuses on remote rural areas.
Amrita-JSS began in 2003 with training centres in Idukki, Kerala and Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu. Three more centres opened in 2021—East Khasi Hills, Meghalaya; Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh; and Kalahandi, Odisha. For 2023, in addition to Ankul, Odisha, two more locations opened in Chennai, Tamil Nadu and Jodhpur, Rajasthan.
