During her six-day visit to Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Lakshadweep, Honourable President Droupadi Murmu arrived in Amritapuri to meet Amma. Swami Amritaswarupananda Puri welcomed her at the Ashram gate, and Sannyasinis extended the tradition of adorning the President with a Tilak, garlanding her, and presenting her with a shawl. During her visit, she had a half-hour meeting with Amma and also sought blessings in the Bhavatarini Temple of the Ashram.
The President was accompanied by Arif Mohammad Khan, The Governor of the State; Afsana Parween, Kollam District Collector; R. Nishanthini, Thiruvananthapuram Range DIG; and Merin Joseph, Kollam City Police Commissioner. Dr. Maneesha V Ramesh, Provost of Amrita University, gave the guests a brief overview of the humanitarian initiatives of the Mata Amritanandamayi Math (MAM), and Embracing the World, highlighting our impact across India and worldwide.
In addition, the President held an informal meeting with six members of Mexico’s Parliament who are visiting Amma as part of the Civil 20 (C20) and Group of 20 (G20) initiatives. Amma is Chair of C20, an official engagement group of India’s G20 Presidency that represents civil society and non-governmental organizations.
In a deeply endearing display, a group of school children excitedly stood along the roadside to the Ashram awaiting the President’s arrival. Seeing them, President Murmu kindly exited her vehicle to distribute chocolates to the happy kids.
