The essence that beats at the substratum of every human heart is compassion. Swami Amritaswarupanananda Puri shared this moving vision as part of his address at the Lincoln Center for Applied Ethics, Arizona State University (ASU). Among America’s leading institutions for innovation, it upholds a mission for an ethical future based upon meaningful societal impact.
As Amma’s most senior disciple and President of Amrita University, ASU invited Swamiji to speak on the theme “Compassion in Action: Addressing Today’s Global Challenges”. He explained how humankind is caught in a tumultuous pull between virtue and vice. Virtues include compassion, patience, forgiveness, and perseverance. In contrast, vices include hatred, impatience, jealousy, and depression.
All of these experiences can be brought under two categories: love and grief. That’s the fundamental problem our world faces—How to overcome grief? How to become established in love?
Swamiji is currently on tour across North America. Find out more.
