Esteemed Malayali novelist, short story writer, playwright, scriptwriter, travelogue author, and orator P.R. Nathan has been selected for this year’s Amritakeerti Award, instituted by the Mata Amritanandamayi Math.
The award carries a cash prize of ₹1,23,456, a Saraswati statuette designed by renowned artist Namboothiri, and a citation of honor. The award will be presented on September 27 during Amma’s 72nd birthday celebrations in Amritapuri.
Speaking on the announcement, Swami Turiyamritananda Puri, Trustee of the Mata Amritanandamayi Math, said: “Through his philosophical writings, P.R. Nathan has elevated Malayalam literature to a higher plane. His works consistently highlight love and goodness, and it is this message that we honor with this award.”
P.R. Nathan has played a significant role in presenting the philosophical perspective of practical life through his lectures and writings. His prolific body of work comprises 21 novels, over 500 short stories, and more than 55 books across various genres, as well as numerous plays and screenplays. He is also a recipient of several other honors, including the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Overall Contributions.
As well, he has delivered thousands of lectures around the world on topics like the Vedas, Upanishads and Tantra and is a recipient of several other honors, including the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Overall Contributions.
Since its inception in 2001, the Amritakeerti Award has been conferred annually on distinguished personalities in the fields of spirituality, philosophy, literature, and culture. The award committee was chaired by Swami Amritaswarupananda Puri and included Dr. K.S. Radhakrishnan, Dr. M. Lakshmikumari, Sri P. Narayana Kurup, and Swami Turiyamritananda Puri.
