It’s global recognition of Amma’s vision for Amrita University to use research to serve the lowest and most vulnerable strata of society. For 2024, the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings rated Amrita among the world’s top institutions—#81 in the world and #1 in India for the fourth year in a row.

THE’s rankings assess how university research contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This year, it evaluated 2,152 universities worldwide from 125 countries and regions—an exhaustive assessment of universities’ contributions and their commitment to sustainability across key areas such as research, stewardship, outreach, and teaching.

The results were announced during THE’s Global Sustainable Development Congress held in Bangkok from June 10 to 13. Dr Maneesha V Ramesh, Amrita’s Provost for Strategic Initiatives, Research & Innovation, stood as one of the distinguished speakers. She stressed Amma’s leadership and vision in propelling sustainable development and innovation.

“This is a testament to Amma as Chancellor of Amrita University and how she has established our dual goals of education for life and compassion-driven research. This recognition would not have been possible without the tireless efforts put in by the students and staff,” said Dr Ramesh.

“I also wish to express my sincere gratitude to Times Higher Education in bestowing this honour. I am happy with the consistency in recognition to the academic excellence, outstanding faculty, and world-class infrastructure that our university is known for.”
