The ninth campus of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham (Amrita University) was officially inaugurated today in Nagercoil, Tamil Nadu. India’s Union Minister of State, Information & Broadcasting and Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, L. Murugan, led the event.
The Nagercoil campus marks a significant expansion for Amrita. It will offer B.Tech programs in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Electronics & Communications. The Master’s level in Engineering includes M. Tech. Computer Science & Engineering and M.Tech. Manufacturing & Automation.
During his inaugural address, Minister Murugan discussed India’s rapid advancements in education, research, and employment. He noted the growth of startups from 400 to over 1,25,000 in a short period and mentioned the country’s increasing role as a global industrial hub creating numerous job opportunities.
Swami Ramakrishnananda Puri, Treasurer of Mata Amritanandamayi Math, delivered a benedictory address. He underlined the importance of developing inner capabilities and dedication for achieving success. He also spoke about the necessity of a refined mind and determination in reaching one’s goals.
The event included speeches from Amrita University’s K.S. Rajendra Kumar, Dean, Administration; Dr. Balakrishnan Shankar, Dean, School of Engineering; Dr. S. Kaliappan, Dean, School of Computing Nagercoil campus; and Dr. T. Kannan, Principal, School of Computing, Nagercoil campus.
