The Amrita School of Ayurveda‘s department of Shalakya Tantra (the branch of an Ayurveda which deals with diagnosis and management of diseases occurring above the clavicle) held an eye donation awareness programme. Dr Anil Radhakrishnan, Cornea and Refractive Surgeon, AIMS, Kochi, addressed students and staff about the procedure and the importance of eye donation.
Sri Ram Kumar is the Working President, Sakshama Charitable Trust, an organisation which works for visually challenged students. He stressed the need to get donors to pledge their eyes and eighty people at the gathering joined.
The Department of Shalakya Tantra also conducted two days of free diagnostic medical camps and reached 140 patients. People with symptoms of myopia, presbyopia, allergic conjunctivitis, dry eyes, and cataract and diabetic retinopathy were among those who benefitted.
