His Holiness embodied a personality full of broad vision and love for humanity. Whenever the truth needed to be told to the world, he boldly and fearlessly proclaimed it. With his departure, we have lost a true messenger of equality, peace, and brotherhood.
As the highest Catholic priest, he shattered barriers, inviting us to envision a time where unity prevails over division. His unwavering convictions, determination, and deep faith in the values he championed will continue to ignite hope and inspire future generations.
In 2014, at the invitation of His Holiness, I had the profound honor of visiting the Vatican to sign a joint declaration to abolish modern slavery, including human trafficking, forced labor, and prostitution.
I cherish that moment and our meeting, where he welcomed me with open arms. His humility and warmth touched my heart profoundly. I witnessed a soul fervently committed to uniting in those precious moments—a leader who embraced all of humankind as one family.
His Holiness was a living testimony of walking the talk. Today, we grieve his departure, but let us also celebrate his remarkable life. Let us carry forward his extraordinary legacy of love, compassion, unity, and tireless service to others.
