More than 300 students from across India participated in the 2-day second edition of Amrita National Science Olympiad (NSO 2019) held at Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore. The theme for this year is Sustainable Development for a Self – Sustaining Future. The event was inaugurated by Mr. Korath Mathew, IT consultant for the Govt. Of India. He said that he was amazed by the level of thinking and application of technology by the students. Anand Shenoi, Convenor – NSO 2019 remarked that originality, innovation and involvement of the students were behind the success of the event.
A total of 60 teams with more than 300 students participated in the final event. The teams were given topics such as smart farming, smart health, robotics, smart pollution management, multi-modal transport system, smart water management and renewable energy. The students categorized into two groups with students of 7th, 8th and 9th standards and category 1 and students of 10th, 11th and 12th as Category 2. They were encouraged to use technology and innovation to create smart solutions and the 29 students who emerged winners were awarded with certificates, trophies and cash awards.
