This short documentary is a story about the power of love, care, and community in creating a brighter future for all. Ramanathapuram, Tamil Nadu is a district steeped in history and spirituality that attracts pilgrims and scholars alike.

At the same time, in today’s modern age, many of its people grapple with real-life challenges such as socio-economic disparities, limited access to quality education, and healthcare services in dire need of progress and equality.

As one of India’s most underdeveloped districts, government stats report that 31.27% of families live below the poverty line and 18.4% of its 1.35 million people are Scheduled Caste.

To help break the cycle of poverty, Amma established an Amrita Vidyalayam school in the city of Ramanathapuram in 2014. In 2018, the second one opened in the district’s municipality of Rameswaram.

It is well known that education and poverty are inextricably linked. When parents cannot afford to educate a child, the child is less likely to support themselves in the future. The cycle then continues to the next generation.

With our schools as a foundation, the doors opened to help the community escape poverty, improve health and enhance opportunities. Amrita Hospital, Kochi began medical camps to strengthen health and well-being. Free care has reached many interior areas that previously could not even imagine accessing such high-quality treatment.

Hearing the voices of these families in Ramanathapuram is just one instance where Amma’s unconditional love is transforming lives and restoring the ancient tradition of vasudaiva kutumbakan—one world, one family.
