Since 1996, our own Mother’s Kitchen program has been feeding hungry people across North America in over 50 cities. Our volunteers lovingly prepare, cook, and serve over 150,000 meals for the homeless and hungry each year. The Cancun branch of this project, La Cocina de Amma, feeds nearly 400 people each month.
To celebrate the New Year, our volunteers in Cancun organized an event in a nearby low-income community where they distributed groceries, clothes, shoes, and other basic necessities to over 108 families, feeding 450 people in total. They also distributed more than 300 toys to the children. For many of them, this was the only gift they received for the holidays. Many parents who attended commented on how happy they were to see their children smiling and laughing. The celebratory event also included a pantomime performance by our volunteers and a piñata.
La Cocina De Amma plans to continue this New Year’s tradition and to have similar annual food drives at the end of each year, supporting communities while also bringing “sonrisas a los niños”, smiles to the children and their entire family.
