An AmritaSREE event to celebrate the 18th year of the Math’s self-help group initiative took place in Amritapuri. Seven thousand women who belong to AmritaSREE SHGs in the Kollam district received support packages that include financial aid, food supplies, and new clothing for the women and their families.
Sri Adv AM Arif, Member of Parliament inaugurated the ceremony and shared how moving it is to witness Amma’s comfort for these women and their families in their immense suffering. Unlike other SHGs, they are able to take each other by the hand and progress to better lives. He added that AmritaSREE will reach more and more women and their families.
Sri CR Mahesh, Kerala MLA said that such projects of the Math are an example for the whole world, as they provide love and a means of living to those who come to Amma seeking solace.
Swami Jnanamritananda Puri delivered the blessing speech. Sri Kummanam Rajasekharan, BJP National Executive Committee Member, and Sri R Ranganathan, AmritaSREE Coordinator, also addressed the gathering.
A second phase of relief distribution in the district will be held at the Kollam Ashram grounds. In addition to basic supplies, the Math annually provides ₹30,000 (US $360) as working capital to each SHG of 20 members.
