Welcome to M.A. Center Washington DC
Mata Amritanandamayi Center (M.A. Center) of the greater Washington DC area is the hub of spiritual and humanitarian activities inspired by Her Holiness Mata Amritanandamayi (Amma). Admirers and followers of Amma gather here to participate in activities for spiritual upliftment and selfless service to society.
The M.A. Center DC family is a very diverse group. Our members are from literally every major religion, ethnicity, tradition and culture, coming together as a family. Although we primarily follow the Indian tradition of Sanatana Dharma, we observe the important days of all major religions and cultures.
(sat = goodness/the Supreme Truth | sang = gathering)
Though the term Satsang can be interpretted with deeper meanings, it could be simply understood as a gathering for a goodness.
The main gathering at the M.A. Center DC happens every Saturday. We gather to do spiritual practices, or satsang, 4:30 pm to 8:00 pm, followed by a delicious vegetarian meal. The evening consists of meditation, chanting, spiritual talk/discussion and devotional singing (bhajans).
Mothers' Kitchen - Our volunteers prepare and serve meals for shelters in the region four weekends every month.
Amrita Bala Kendra - Gathering for children aged 5 to 15, with classes inculcating values and principles shaping them towards becoming responsible citizens.
AYUDH - Amrita Yuva Dharma Dhara is a youth initiative, encouraging the youth to get involved in activities of personal empowerment and societal benefit.
Scriptural Discussions - Led by Br. Ramanand, Minister and Director of the Center, we gather every Tuesday at 7 pm to discuss Indian scriptural texts.
IAM Meditation Technique - Regular meditation instructional sessions are organized at M.A. Center to teach Amma's Integreated Amrita Meditation Technique (IAM).
