Santa Barbara Satsang

santabarbara Mother's Kitchen
Mother's Kitchen is one of the main activities of our Satsang!

Welcome to the Santa Barbara Satsang

Our local group began to gather for occasional satsangs, spiritual meetings, in the early 1990's and then started to meet simi-weekly on Sunday evenings in 1994. Over the years since then we have gathered in homes graciously offered by members. On average, about 12-16 people attend, with as may as 25 on some occasions. We have hosted larger gatherings for fundraising events, a retreat with Br. Dayamrita and IAM meditation classes.

Locally, we're involved in various kinds of charitable activities to benefit the community. Our primary service is Mother's Kichen where we feed homeless persons wholesome food at several locations. You are welcome to join us. For a peek, take a look at our slidehow.

We also participate in Circle of Love Inside, a program for corresponding with inmates in U.S. correctional facilities. We have received heartfelt notes back for the inmates who express gratitude for the cards they received on their birthdays.

During the winter months we gather clothing, water and toiletries to donate to our friends without homes during inclement weather through Santa Barbara's "warming shelters."

Each year, we work with the other southern California satsang groups to prepare for and participate in the Los Angeles programs and retreat when Amma comes in June.

Our Sunday evening devotional program:

  • 20 minutes a video of Amma
  • Invocation and 108 names
  • 45 minutes of spirited bhajans, devotional singing
  • 15 minutes of meditation
  • A reading from Amma's writings
  • Closing Sanskrit prayers
  • Announcements about service projects and upcoming satsang activities
  • A tasty vegetarian potluck dinner

All are welcome and warmly invited to attend our Sunday evening program or any of our service activities.  We look forward to meeting you. For more details you may email us anytime.
