Onam Observance and Bhajan Evening

Aug 14, 2021 6:30pm-9:00pm (ended)

Onam Observance and Bhajan Evening

Onam is perhaps the most widely celebrated day in the state of Kerala where Amritapuri is situated, in India. Taking into account the harvest season, this day is celebrated as a remembrance of the time when the land was ruled by Mahabali. Righteousness, honesty, love and compassion were rampant. The utopian world that we could only dream of was believed to be existent back then.

It is believed Mahabali received a boon from Lord Vishnu to revisit the land he ruled once, to see how his subjects are doing today. Palpable positive feeling, celebration and joy can be felt throughout the state.

Schedule

Beginning at 6:30 pm, the evening will consist of meditation, chanting of 108 names, bhajans led by Br. Ramanandamrita Chaitanya.

One of the highlights of the evening would be the description of sadhya - traditional South Indian feast on a plantain leaf as it would be offered at the altar during the online event.

The bhajans would also include songs that are traditional and folk in style, marking the celebratory mood in Kerala
