It is with great pleasure that a one-day conference on Technology for Sustainable Development co-hosted by the United Nations and Amrita University at the UN in New York on July 8th, 2015 is announced. The Chancellor, Mata Amritanandamayi (Amma), will deliver the keynote address. It is also expected that senior UN officials will speak at the event.

The United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) is a global initiative that aligns institutions of higher education with the United Nations in furthering the realization of the purposes and mandate of the UN through activities and research in a shared culture of intellectual social responsibility. This conference is the first session in a new series entitled “Skills and Technology Accelerating Rapid Transformation” (UNAI-START).

The UNAI has invited Amrita University to present cutting-edge research projects undertaken with collaborators from universities around the world. Spanning a diverse array of disciplines including disaster management, education and healthcare, these research projects share a single goal: to harness the power of modern technology to make a difference in the lives of people in need.

Also a new UNAI/Amrita University online portal will be launched for researchers around the world who are innovating Technology for Sustainable Development as a follow-up to this conference.
