Ramayan Masam in Ann Arbor
Update: We've extended Ramayana story time beyond the month of August.
Ramayana Masam (month) is an important observance in Kerala, observed in the month of 'Karkidakam' of the Malayalam calendar.
During this month, members of the house gather after sunset, light the evening ‘Nilavilakku’ (traditional Kerala lamp) and narrate the verses of Ramayan. The reading of Ramayana is managed in a way that it ends on the last day of the Karkidakam Masam.
This year it falls from July 16 - Aug 16th. In Kerala, this is also the period of heavy monsoon showers and people are more confined to their houses. This is also the time of monsoon related diseases. In our current situation, since most of us are still mostly confined to our homes, there was a request to follow this here.
Raji chechi will be leading the reading every evening from 8 PM to 8:30 PM followed by group white flower meditation
