Nagapattinam Comes Alive

The residents of Nagapattinam had a lot to rejoice this week - a break from the many hardships they face living in the the worst hit coastal town of India. The Tsunami had taken more than 7000 lives here in December 2004..

M. A. Math distributed homes to 284 families in and around Nagapattinam - all to victims of Tsunami.

Swami Ramakrishananda Puri handed over the symbilic jey to teh district collector of Nagapattinam, Mr. Tenkasi S. Jawahar. The district collector in turn distributed keys to the beneficiaries.

Each of these government-compliant homes will have 350 sq. ft of living space with 2 rooms, kitchen, bath & a patio. These homes are far superior to the ones washed away by the tsunami.

Of the 284 homes, 164 homes were built in the village of Akarapettai.

The remaining 120 homes were built in Pandagasaalai.
