Help Feed Those In Need
The lower mainland has the second highest poverty rate in Canada. The poverty rate in BC for children in families where one or both parents worked fulltime, year round, was the highest in the country at 10.1% compared to 7.3% for Canada as a whole.
Once a month, our group gathers to help package donated food, so that it can be provided to those in need. We meet at Quest, a non-profit food exchange program in Vancouver, which rescued 4.3 million dollars worth of food last year. This surplus food is donated from local wholesalers, restaurants, supermarkets and farmers. The food is sorted at the the Quest warehouse and then either sold at Quest's low-cost grocery markets or delivered to other community meal programs. The food that is rescued by Quest does not end up in the landfil.
We welcome you to join our Amma group by volunteering your time at Quest sorting food in the warehouse. We meet at Quest every third Saturday from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.
