Service for Amma's Programs
Everyone you’ll see helping at Amma’s programs is a volunteer. Amma says, “The world should know that a life of dedication is possible, that a life inspired by love and service to humanity is possible.” Putting this teaching of selfless service (often referred to by the Sanskrit word seva) into practice, Amma’s programs are entirely volunteer-run. Selfless service is a wonderful way to help and to meet new people. Everyone is invited to join in for any amount of time they wish, whether short or long.
Three ways to serve
2. Sign up at the programs
Visit the Seva Desk during a program, or look for a volunteer carrying a whiteboard showing the current services needed. There’s a selfless service for everyone. Even if you don’t know what you want to do, the seva volunteers can help you find something you’ll enjoy.
3. Spontaneous seva
Even a few minutes of spontaneous service can help. Here are a few ways to serve on the fly.
- Return others’ forgotten cups and dishes to Snack Shop or Dining Hall dish stations.
- Put forgotten soda bottles in the nearest CRV bottle container. The return value goes to support Amma’s charitable projects.
- Collect trash and place it in trash containers.
- Clear spills and crumbs and push in chairs at Snack Shop and Dining Hall tables.
