Tube Socks for the Homeless

The homeless suffer in a multitude of ways including being vulnerable to the elements especially in cold weather. These individuals are in need of protecting their feet. MA Center New England has been donating tube socks to the Albany Street Shelter for homeless men and women in Cambridge Massachusetts. Amma has said, “Go out and serve the suffering. Learn to place others in front of yourself.” Recognizing the suffering of the homeless and donating socks becomes a devotional practice that is enlivened by Amma’s Grace.

Socks for the Homeless Embracing the World Project was started in the fall of 2015 and has become an annual event.  In 2015/2016, we donated over 500 pairs of white tube socks. In 2016/2017, just under 480 pairs of socks were donated. One month into the 2017/2018 fall and winter seasons, MA Center New England has donated 276 pairs of tube socks to the Albany Street Shelter in Cambridge.

Throughout the fall and winter, we will continue to collect new white tube socks which will be donated to the Albany Street Shelter. There are a number of ways you can donate:

  •  Purchase white tube socks and leave them in the designated blue bin located in the back porch of the Ashram.
  •  Give a cash donation to Pranata during satsang at the Ashram
  •  Donate a check made out to “MAC New England” and note “Socks for Homeless” on the memo line of the check. Checks can be given to Pranata during satsang or mailed to:

MA Center New England

Pranata will purchase socks with the monetary donations.

Thank you for helping Amma’s children.
